Health & Safety
At Holroyd Kids Early Learning Centre, we believe that children’s health and safety is essential to creating strong foundations for children’s emotional wellbeing, nutrition as well as hygiene, which impacts on children’s growing confidence and independence in developing a healthy lifestyle.
Nutritious Meals
Children at Holroyd Kids Early Learning Centre are provided with five nutritional meals throughout the day, which include; breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late afternoon tea. Our meals are prepared fresh on the premises on a daily basis which meet special dietary needs of children and the Nutrition Checklist for Long Day Care Menu Planning. Our menus reflect and offer a variety of cultural and nutritious meals, which have been created in consultation with children, families, educators as well as an early childhood nutritionist from NSW Community Health. Our menus are reviewed regularly, where we welcome children’s, families’ and educators thoughts and suggestions. We believe that positive role modelling and discussions of healthy eating practices is essential throughout our mealtimes, where our educators discuss and reinforce positive and healthy eating practices.
Sleep and Rest
We understand and support children’s needs for relaxing and restful spaces throughout the day. Areas set up within our environment such as soft cushions, lounges, soft music provide a tranquil and quiet area for children to take a rest throughout their play. Within our daily routine, we have a planned ‘rest time’. At Holroyd Kids Early Learning Centre we welcome each child’s diverse patterns of sleep and rest and further provide quiet activities during these times if children choose not to sleep.
Learning Experiences and Programs
Our Health and Safety program offer experiences which are conducted throughout our daily indoor, outdoor and group time programs. Our program focuses on a different element each month, which include discussions and experiences on sun safety, appropriate clothing, healthy habits, road safety, dental care, stranger danger, our environment, fire safety and dangerous products.
Sun Safety
All children are provided with their own Holroyd Kids Early Learning Centre bucket hat. Transitions are supported by educators helping children to place on their hat as well as apply sunscreen to their face, neck, arms and legs. Our sunscreen is 30+ SPF which complies with the Australian safety standards. Sunscreen is available at all times at our centre and is placed on every child before playing outdoors. Holroyd Kids Early Learning Centre understands the importance of having shady places available for children during play. Our outdoor environments offer large shaded areas, which reduce sun exposure, while still allowing natural sunlight to surface.
Educators to Child Ratios
We employ a high educator to child ratio, which allows for our educators and children to employ greater one to one interactions. By having a high educator ratio at our service premises ensures that children are adequately supervised at all times. Our educators follow policies and procedures to ensure that children are provided with a safe, healthy and hygienic centre. Our educators hold first aid, asthma and anaphylactic training, enabling them to be responsive to any illness or injuries that may occur. All of our centres comply with the Workplace Health and Safety requirements which we reflect upon on our daily practice
